Spring Break has Come and Gone

Hello all you people who read or rather don't read these blogs. I guess I can't say much for myself either. I don't really venture out into the world of Blogger to find blogs to read... even though I probably should. None the less, Spring Break has ended with a subtle sizzle after a weekend at my friends beach house on the North Shore. It was pretty chill, just us friends, the beach and a lot of steaks. Most likely the peak of my last Spring Break as a high school student. However, looking back on the spring breaks of my past makes me wonder. I expect so much to happen during every waking moment, that when reality sets in and I find myself in the midst of break, I find it no different that any other weekend. Just, 3 times longer. I think this goes to show that either, 1. I need to plan better or 2. I need to lower my expectations. I don't know... Maybe I just need to accept the fact that life will not be exciting unless I make it excititng. I should stop relying on other people to bring the fun and bring it myself! GOOD IDEA HUH! But, bringing the fun isn't always that easy. Bringing the fun can sometimes mean bringing myself stress. I remember the one time I was in charge of handling the 'after function' party, and oh boy was that exciting. I was extremely stressed out when we found out the hotel lobby was closed off to people without room keys so we had to go through a huge ordeal with sneaking people though the back stairway. To get to my point, it takes some planning to be party master and if you aint ready to handle what comes with planning, you're in for a boring spring break... if that makes any sense at all.

Road Trip: Sumore!

Okay well last time on ROAD TRIP, we just visited McDonalds. I went on quite the rant about how McDonalds breakfast is good but will make you have big love handles.

Yeah, after McDonalds and buying ice and water to drink we headed out to pick up our only female companion on the trip. This female friend of ours is very funny and decided that we needed to bring her along for our amazing adventure. Okay but yeah on our way down to her house, my friend and I who were sitting in the truck bed found out a literally 'not so hot' truth. Well, see when we woke up the sky was pretty overcast. When we started driving, it started to rain. Yes, cold+rain equals not much fun. It was pretty interesting how we developed different methods of staying dry and out of the wind. As unpleasant the experience was, it was amusing to see what kind of things we came up with to stay somewhat comfortable.

SO after picking up our friend, we started to head out to Waimea bay, the first stop on the agenda. The sky was overcast the whole way there and we weren't gettin much more cover there in the truck bed. The wind cut pretty deep and basically chilled right down to the bone. I couldn't belive it got that cold in Hawaii. By the way, that ride from Ala Moana to Waimea is about an hour, so just imagine... the cold... brrr...

Well we eventually did arrive with all limbs still fuctional. The clouds still hadn't really cleared yet though. We grabbed our boards in anticipation of the waves to come. The surf report gave us a nice estimated 2-3 feet on the west/north facing shores so we seemed to be in for a treat! I must say, I am not the greatest of bodyboarders but I have my moments from time to time. I'm sometimes even scared to hit up the big waves. They look so intimidating like they are just going to drop you off the top and right into the sand. I dunno, I did okay out there that day though. KDENS

ROAD TRIP: the continuation!

SO anyways back to the story of the road trip.. Hrm where was I.. well I kind of forget where I was in my story, but I'll start from where I think I was. It's really the best I could do. :)

Okay, so it is Saturday morning and we have planned to embark early, and I mean EARLY like 6:30 early! Well, I guess it doesn't sound that early but when you go to sleep at 3:00am after a night of having fun, 6:30 seems really early. I probably should have gotten to bed earlier because I knew we were going to leave really early, but hey it was a Friday night and I didn't have to go home. What other excuse do I need to go do what I want? So yeah, it's about 6:45 and we're on our way to pick up some ice for the cooler and breakfast at McDonalds. Oh and might I add, McDonalds has quite possibly, the best breakfast EVERRRRR. However, the catch is that I never wake up early enough to buy breakfast there and it makes me pretty sad. They should do a Jack in the Box deal and serve breakfast ALL day! Oh man, that would be great. I love those golden brown hash browns, deep fried in all that scrumcious oil! Hah, nah but seriously, McDonalds should really consider the 24 hour breakfast, that would be choice.

To think about it, I wonder how many other people would want McDonalds to serve an all day breakfast. AND oh man, I also wanna know if McDonald's breakfast is more unhealthy than their lunches. If you think about it, breakfast has portugese sausage, ham, spam, eggs, hash browns and oh, McGriddles(SUUUPER FATTY!). Lunch has fries, burgers... uh fries and burgers. I don't know, a 24 hour breakfast would make America even fatter. GREAT. Let's high five to that one. So in essence, I guess we could say that McDonalds is actually doing America a favor by not serving breakfast all day!

So yeah I guess I didn't really get past that whole first part of the road trip. That's okay though.

Road Trip: The Beginning

Okay all you local braddahs when was the last time you went around the island of Oahu? Long time ago? Not too long ago? Well, lucky for you, I just performed this arduous feat over the weekend. Well, here's how it all began.

Two weeks ago, my friends and I were just crusing on a Saturday night with nothing to do. We cycled through the norms, movies, video games, mall, but nothing really sounded appealing. So, after a quick run down to and a meal at Wahoo's Fish Tacos, we continued our debate about how to make our night fufilling. Suddenly, like a brick flying through a glass window on a hot summer day in July, glass flying everywhere and being worried about stepping on some of it, an idea came to mind! WHY NOT DRIVE AROUND THE ISLAND! WOW! WOW! WOW! Yeah, I was pretty stoked about this idea. Unfortunately, we did not have a digital camera, or any camera for that matter. Plus, it was about 8:30 at night. It kind of threw a bucket of damper on our little party in our minds. We ended up just hanging out at my friends house that night. Not so fun.

Two weeks later, luckily the idea was revived. A Jesus of nazereth feat! Yes, it was a Wednesday and the boys and I did not want to be stuck with another uneventful weekend, something that seemed to plauge us quite often. So we began the plan dubbed: MANOA-NALO-MANOA. Okay, well we actually didn't come up with a name for the trip, and the name that I just made up "Manoa-Nalo-Manoa" is horrible. But, anyways, with the plan in motion we took an all out swing at the fences to create, what could possibly be, the best weekend ever.

The day drew closer. It was planned for Saturday where we would embark at around 7:00 to our first destination wherever it might be. I dunno. Actually I think I'll end it here. My next post will be about the epic journey. OKAY!

Time is a Tricky Beast

Time is an amazing thing. I mean, you kind of end up taking it for granted, but really, if you actually think about it a multitude of thoughts and ideas come to mind. Well, it does for me atleast. Like just looking back on this school year that has gone by so quickly. I can remember coming back to school on the first day after summer ended thinking, "Will this ever end?" They school year seemed like such a unexhaustable journey that I had to embark on. I guess what I'm trying to convey is the way time can change depending on the circumstances. When I'm in a boring class I spend my time just looking at the clock, doodling around and destressing over how only three minutes went by. I guess I can attribute this to my unwillingness to be in the moment. However, compared to an awesome day out bodysurfing or a night of fishing, time seems to just blaze by in an instant. Hah wouldn't it be great if you could slow down the fun times and just speed up the lame? But, back to my point, time really is mysterious. I guess it seems to go bye faster because I am occupied. The constant barrage of thoughts, ideas and flat out fun keeps me out of the boredom! An idle mind is simply the root of a long, exhausting day so keep yourself busy. KDENS

Paddling SUCKS

So paddling finished last week and boy am I relived. See paddling this year was pretty rediculous in my opinion. I guess it all started when I went away for Christmas break. See, being a senior and having quite a good record for racing in the three years past, I figured I'd atleast be garunteed a spot on the Mixed crew. I went on my trip (awesome trip by the way but thats for another blog)to visit my colleges and do a little snowboarding. However, much to my surprise, when I came back I found that the crew had been set and I wasn't on it. Great just what I needed. So with my options now restricted to the varsity II crew, I was pretty frustrated and frankly, pissed off. I really didn't want to paddle for Varsity II during my senior year. I knew the crew was going to blow because of the people that were on the crew and how they handled themselves. I was so used to winning atleast second place in the races that having such a straight up shitty crew was going to suck for senior year. I tried to complain to the coaches but in all seriousness, I knew they weren't going to do anything to change what they had already set. I was really mad because the people they chose to be on the mixed crew were ALL new. They had never touched a paddle before and had horrible timing and all the other things that made a good paddler. I feel like I was cheated out of a right that I should have been given and in result, I had a miserable season paddling for the Varsity II. What made things even worse was that one of my friends that had also paddled with me for all three years prior also got cut from the mixed crew. He hadn't even gone away for the winter break either! The coaching was rediculous. She even put a guy that was completely useless to the team in the boat. Me and my friend could both pull more weight than him and were just as good as blending with the rest of the crew. Paddling is possibly the worse coached sport at my school and I don't know.. It makes me mad to talk about this again and I realize my organization has gotten bad in the latter part of this post but it's just because I really dislike this whole situation. Alright. Well atleast I get to lift weights again now that the season is done. SHOOTS!
